Default Buying fishing tackle in Anchorage. Where?

Where is a good store to buy fishing tackle and camping gear in Anchorage? Need to pick up a few odds and ends in anchorage (bear spray, flies, white gas, propane, weights etc...) before we fly out on a float trip. Any stores in Anchorage you can recommend?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Try the Sportsman's Warehouse off E. Dimond Blvd and the Old Seward HWY.
    8681 Old Seward Hwy
    I also like B & J's for fishing gear & tackle.

For fishing gear go to B&J's commercial. If you are looking for Flies go to Mountian View Sports. For camping REI and Sportmans Warehouse should take care of what you need.
It ain't about the # of pounds of meat we bring back, nor about how much we spent to go do it. Its about seeing what no one else sees.

Warehouse is the cheapest, and B and Js is the most knowlegeable.

    Exclamation Bear Spray Warning (IMPORTANT)!!!!!!!!

Talk to your outfitter first. There are restrictions on flying with bear spray. We once had a customers canister deploy due to heat on our DC3 causing an emergency situation as the cabin filled with capsacin (sp?). The passengers and crew were all severely effected. If you are flying in a float plane not a problem as the spray can be stored in the floats.

    Fishing:
-B&J commecial simply the best, prices are as good as sportsmens, sales staff actually fishes hunts etc. plus you support local bussiness
    -Boondocks in Eagle River
-Mt View Sports on old seward, good selection of top quality gear
-Sportsmans warehouse, if you know what you want its ok but the sales staff is a bunch of wankers (for the most part)
-World Wide Angler, might be the best fly shop in town

    Camping
    -REI, over priced mediocre gear
-Barney's Sports chalet, over priced top end gear
-AMH over, priced top end gear
    -Wal Mart, Cheap terrible gear
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

World Wide has a killer fly selection and I like the Guys. B&J been here forever and great people. Warehouse for general stuff but they are in the negative range on knowledge.

REI Yea go in there and ask for a box of 44 back packer special loads. Step back cuz whoever they are will blow a carmel light cafe no foam over under latte all over you.
