    Default FL Girl in Alaska

I will be in Alaska, flying into Anchorage for a 10 day RV trip mid September. Thinking of doing the Copper River area and moving down to the Peninsula for road-side fishing and some tourist stuff. Not so hip on pulling a cinder-block and paying shipping to have it sent to FL. Just want my dinner and to do a vacation with not too much tourist stuff involved. Off time of year for tourist, advice?

Mid Sept you will have a blast with the trout in in the Kenai area.
The Russian river will be awesome along with the Kenai river. Silvers still can be had in the Kenai river. Don't know much about north of Anchorage.

September is the best time!!!! All the "regular" tourists have gone home, the diehards are out and about in the fall. September on the Kenai can't be beat (lots of rainbows and dollies + some silvers) The forrest service campground in Cooper Landing is free after the first week of September which is a bonus. Good Steelhead and silver fishing in the Anchor. The fall colours are amazing and by late in the month there is termination dust (snow) at the higher elevations. I have been coming for the month of September since 2003 and will never come any other time.
    Have fun!!!!!

Thank you, I will still be out of my mode of S FL fishing, can't wait! Thought booking outside of the crazy tourist season would be good. Tourist season here is winter, contrast to yours.

    Default Shoulder season...

There are plenty of good deals to be had during that time. The best is in hotel rates. The RV rental cost will go down as well.

Do your homewrork. There are good books in this site's bookstore that will show you how to cut costs and still find the fish.

Shoulder season is a great time, but don't forget that along with the good deals there comes an added element in September.

    It's called weather...

I am sure there are plenty of women in Alaska and they know what the deal is. Florida is a long way from Alaska. Just could use some info. Is 10 days in a RV to long to spend just on Kenai Peninsula. I am not on a mission to do the whole Alaska in 10 days. Suggestions?

10 days on Kenai is just about right. It is enough time to see and do almost everything once without getting bored. Then when you come back you will know what you want to see & do.
It ain't about the # of pounds of meat we bring back, nor about how much we spent to go do it. Its about seeing what no one else sees.

So this will be my yearly vacation? Maybe, I will just sell it all, to freeze all winter. I've heard of people never retuning. Could do it if only it wasn't so cold. 2 weeks in only chilly weather will feel good, but................................

    I was hoping for a hottie in a bikini - not a not-so-hottie with a 'stache

This web site will give you a good overview:

For details on specific rivers and lakes, a couple books will serve you well: Rene Limeres' Alaska Fishing, and Scott Haugen's Fly Fisher's Guide to Alaska.
