Default Kodiaks Got some Bears Out!

just got done with first hunt of the spring down there, went in on the 14th, 15th we saw eight bears, passed on three the first day, one monster but just a little to far of a shot for the guy, so we opted for the "ethical" choice and let him walk, ended up with a 9'10" on day four of the hunt, probably saw about 12-15 different bears, dens opening up every day, when the sun was out it was hot, but there is stil alot of snow in areas, even at sea level, starting to get punchy around late afternoon, but it was freezing at night with no cloud cover. Bring your snowshoes!!! Rubbed hides was common the last three days of the hunt. Good hunting to everyone headed out for brownies this spring!!

    Default Nice Going

Nice going Jake. Do yourself a favor and don't tell the guy coming in on May 2 about your last 2 hunts (last fall and first one this year), or he'll think the bears don't grow smaller than 10 feet!

+1 on the pics when you have them.

    Nice effort, Jake!

Hope to have similar luck the first two weeks of May.

You still going to be in Kodiak on the 1st?

Congrats and hope your other hunts are successful as well!

Sealed him up today, skull was 27.5", he was the 10th bear sealed so far this season, so its been pretty slow, still lots of snow, mountains were just starting to make slides when i left, next two weeks should jsut get better and better, most all the bears were rubbed after the first day i was there. so beware...they are itchy!!

ok here he is bedded on the mountian, a few mintues before Roland flew down the valley sightseeing or whatever, that got him up and moving down...

He's about a half mile out here, on his way to the end of his rope...little did he know.

Well, this is the one wet spot for miles that he died in, couldn't get him out and ended up skinning him here in the creek. 40 yard shot.

one of the bears sealed was from the roadsystem, killed i think about two weeks ago actually, big one i guess. heard rumor of a big one up near the ski lift area that was being chased around, seen tracks on the south road system in the heavy timber as i flew out, but the road system has ALOT of snow still.
