    Default Black bear average sightings

This thread will be dedicated to statistics of your black bear hunts in the PWS and Kenai Peninsula areas.

    On an average hunt.....

How many bears do you see?

What is the average size you see?

How often are the bears accompanied by cubs?

Do you ever see cinamon blackies?

How long does it take to bag your desired bear?

How high is your success rate?

Do you hunt from boat glassing, hiking, or bearbating/tree standing?

Not asking for hunting spots or secrets, just trying to build some statistics

    Thanks in advance

    Default Stats

How many bears do you see? I'm not good at establishing a relationship with the bears , so we rarely get on a first name basis. But, I can guess that last year we had about 9 bears moving through the station.

What is the average size you see? 5' or less

How often are the bears accompanied by cubs? Last year, none noted... previous years about 10%

Do you ever see cinnamon blackies? Not yet

How long does it take to bag your desired bear? Depends... Last year could have taken one very early (May 12ish), bears started to hit on 10 May. Depends on what you're looking for (meat, rug, trophy, etc.)

How high is your success rate? 50% or better... again depends on goals.

Do you hunt from boat glassing, hiking, or bear batting/tree standing? Bait/stand

Game camera indicates that most bear activity is in afternoon/evening. So, bear hunting coincides well with my youngin get's to sleep in !

Cam and observation also indicates that if a bear is feeding on the station, will do so for 30-50 minutes...

Watch for patterns... when you find 'the bear' but didn't figure it out when you had a shot... he'll be back - try to figure out how long it takes him to move around his feeding 'cycle'. 3-7 days wouldn't be unreasonable.
