    Default Free online boating course

    http://www.boatus.org/onlinecourse/

Its accepted in AK and is recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard as exceeding the minimum requirements for the National Recreational Boating Safety Program.

It might be old news, but its a very useful online course, and my insurance accepted it as a "boaters education" course and lowered my rates.

Default Hey, thanks for the info

Think I'll take it, lowering the insurance is a good incentive too.

    Default Thanks again,

Just completed the course and got my certificate. Now to call the insurance company. Actually, in the process, I learned a lot, certainly worth the time.

I just finished taking this online course, and although useful as a refresher, I don't think it's a substitute for more formal classroom-type training. They even say so on their information page: ''This course is not intended to replace the in-depth training a formal classroom course will provide . . . .''

So, if you've never had any formal training, such as the CG Auxiliary offers, I really encourage you to get it. On the other hand, if all you're looking for is a refresher, or to test you knowledge, this online course is very helpful.

Here is another good one ,And it is for Alaska . It is almost the exact same thing they give you in a booklet for your class if you plan on getting your 6-Pack license.
