    Default Homer tournament

Just made it back today from Homer. we went out Friday and the wind and tidal current did there best to swamp us on the way back in. The wind Saturday morning was whipping on the spit, it layed down by 10:30 or 11:00 but it was postponed by then. Did not look good to go Sunday, but I wouldn't be surprised if they postpone until 10 am or so.

Seeing that pic makes me feel better for not going. Did you catch anything?

    Unhappy homer tournament

We didn't get a bite. only trolled for like 2 hours or so until the winds made it too difficult to stay on course.

    Default Sunday!

FYI, I just got off the phone to Dave Lyon down there and he was "putting a piece of herring on a hook". The Derby is happening right now!

Well I had hoped (for selfish reasons of course)that it would go next week but that's the way it goes I suppose. The derby lost 500.00 from my boat alone by having it on a holiday, and after looking at the marine forecast I beginning to wonder if it wasn't a bit irresponsible to have the derby today, not everyone will be out there in a 28' boat:

I'm pulling for HomerDave. I told him on Friday that if he wins, a 2009 fly-in sheep hunt is on him.

    Default Update / 2pm

I just got off the phone with Dave Lyon in Homer. He said he thought about 70-80 fish had been caught so far (he pulled in an 18-20 pounder on his boat).
Less than 800 fisherman fishing this year, so that makes a pretty good average if the number of fish is correct.

Wind and sea swell were opposing one another so it was a conga line trolling east all together out near the Bluff. So, everyone was making "a slow 2mph back to the Spit", said Dave.

    Wish I was there...

Default uh, first off, my fish shrank...<grin>

okay, it was really only #12.9....ground shrinkage,i guess... ;-)

about 220+ boats, 791 anglers, and 80 or so fish..

weather was actually pretty good, some swell, not much wind except for a bit around noon...
all things considered it went well.
(sorry about the sheep hunt, Brian)

oh yeah... green coyote spoon, 60' down, 1.8-2.1 kts....

12 pounds? That's it? Twelve pounds?! Man...I guess you'll have to find the money elsewhere. I've already booked the air charter.
