    Default what lb test for halibut

    i will be coming up from ga and would like to know if my 80lb power pro that i have on my grouper rigs will work for halibut or do i need to go heavier

    Yep, 80lb is plenty. I've got 80lb Tuff Line spooled on both my 'but rods.

    If you're bringing grouper gear, bring your deep-drop rig too... there are some big azz butts and plenty of sablefish at 800' - 2500'... 80# will do fine.

    80 should be fine... I know folks who use like 140 then 80# backing or something like that.

    I tend to use 40 pound tippet but then again I'm stupid
    I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.
