    Default homemade track rig

Anyone seen or tried to make a track rig using a small car rear differential as a skid steer setup? I know it can be done. Just curious to hear an oppinion from someone who may have tried it.

I had a friend make several nearly forty years ago in Anchorage. He called them a Samson. He started using a fan cooled Kohler 21 hp industrial motor. Later, he made several others with Weasel axles because they were made for this, and powered them with Plymouth slant 6's. He made some out of metal, but most of the later ones were glass over plywood, which he found to be lighter and more durable. His would swim, and some of the later ones he added a prop to speed them up when in the water. Never made enough money to keep building them, so the last one was probably built in mid 70's. I wonder if any are still running?
