Default Trying to pick the right equipment....

I'm headed to the SE and hope to do some fishing.

I could easily just pickup a nice saltwater spinning reel and have a decent time fishing. I would much rather have more fun and flyfish! I've done *some* flyfishing (i'm not an expert) and really enjoy it.

I'll be in the SE on islands rivers fishing.

I'm not sure how heavy of a pole to go, 9 or 12?

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thank you all,

    KRS

check the regulations. I'm not sure that you can fish for kings most places in freshwater in the SE islands.

Probably a 5-6 wt for trout and 8 wt for salmon. If you are going for kings somewhere, blind slough for example, you will need a 10-11 wt

    Default 7-8 wt

A 7 wt would be a good rod for pinks and silvers if you were only taking one. Look at the thread by this one about the 7 wt rod deal at Cabelas. It is on sale for $79!

you want a 3 or 4 wt for trout and a 7 wt for salmon
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.
