    Default When Will You Launch?

It's almost that time of year to "kick the the tires and light the fires". How soon are you guys going to unwrap your boat for the season, where are you located? This is my first fishing season with a boat, so what is your early season ritual?

It looks like some people are already fishing for winter kings out of Homer and doing quite well. I understand that the ice is pretty thick at the ramp so most people are launching at the dirt ramp (I don't know where that is.) It would not take much for me to hook up to the boat and head out for winter Kings.

I know... right? It's as if everyone doesn't have a nice warm boathouse to keep their machines in! ;-)

I've always tried to go straight from sport-fishing season into deer hunting season for the winter. After Jan. 1, I don't usually do much for 6 weeks or so, but the hassle of hauling out, blocking and covering my boat was never worth 6-8 weeks of sitting high and dry. Mid-Feb we were out looking for winter Kings, and now we're running pots for dungies and goldens (browns)...

I'm already logged, licensed, permitted and ready for charters as soon as I can get the local yard to haul me for 48 hours to re-build a lower unit and clutch.

Is 3A (SouthCentral) really all that different from 2C (SouthEast)??

    Default yes its different

longer tows on more slippery roads. alot colder as to where the snow usually when i comes it stays. not sure about in juneau but in petersburg the snow comes and goes for the most part. ill bet the biggest factor is its alot harder to tow your boat 1 to 5 hours to get out fishing when the fishing is not all that productive. its cold out and the daylight aint really all that much makes it kinda tough to get motivated. maybe i ought to get out to whittier and do some rockfishing. the limits double this time of the year but thats about all thats available rom the whittier side anyway with a limited amount of boat and time.

Some of us don't get to leave our boats in the water during the season, and the less fortunate don't even have a garage!
