Default Inuvik - What kinds of fish are on the way up?

    Hi Guys,
Just curious to know if anyone has any ideas on what kind of fishing is happening on the way up.

What kind of gear I'll need. I'm planning on bringing a 4 and 7wt fly rods.

Is the terrain much different then the road up to Deadhorse?

    Thanks.

Will be curious to see if anyone has been on Dempster. I have, all of 3/4 of a mile. Love Dawson City(Music Festival second to last weekend in July) and drove out the Klondike Highway(have come up to Dawson from that way and Whitehorse once) last year just for a wee bit of a drive and saw the turn off to the Dempster. So I drove it for a mile or so. Real quick there was a one lane bridge. Have run into one guy who said he drove the whole thing. Bit of a story if I recollect. Good luck on your trip.

Bring a couple of spare tires!!! The gravel around Eagle Plains is very sharp early in the season. I haven't been on the road yet myself but have been told there are plenty of Grayling in the rivers and when you get to the Mackenzie you will find Inconnu, Char, whitefish, pike, burbot and walleye.

I would also bring a medium action 7 foot spinning rod, some jigs and 1/2 to 1 ounce spoons (bluefox Pixies in the large size work well for char and inconnu). Also bring a handfull of wire leaders for the pike.

There are salmon, lake trout and grayling in the Yukon river.

The best time to go is in August when the fall colours are starting.
You may have to park a while to wait for caribou to cross the road as well.
