rules/regs using dead birds
I have a couple of mergansers i stuck in the freezer last year to use for training. Does anyone know the rules for using these birds for training my retreiver outside of the hunting season? I am afraid of being accused of shooting the bird out of season. Thanks for any info.
The regs read: You must salvage all edible meat. Which is the meat of the breast for birds.
Also pen raised birds must be properly tagged as such. Leg bands.
I do save harvested game birds after they have been debreasted. I fold the skin back over the breast and then wrap a rubber band or two around it. It helps to hold it together longer once it starts to get soft during use. I also wrap the bird with nylons or burlap.
