Default What size of cooler for bear hide?

I'll be black bear hunting in AK in May and if successful I am planning to put my hide/skull in a cooler and freeze it, then check it as luggage. About how big of a cooler (quarts) will I need to fit a good sized blackie? Thanks!

    Default Depends

I saw two guys register a bear one year that would fit into a crisper drawer in a refrigerator.

But a 38-44 quart is probably better for a 6' bear.

    Talking Bear or rabbit??

    Dave,

Are you sure that was a bear or one of those rascally rabbits? I heard they could pick the whole thing up by the ears….

    Default Ask Bob

Rod, seriously, ask Bob. We were registering mine and two guys had a bear that could fit in a lunch box. I did not put mine down until they left. Bob and I did not want to embarrass them. It is the bigger one on my wall.

    Default bear skin in cooler

Check your Private Messages. Don't put the skin in a cooler, there's a real good chance it will spoil.
