I'm going to be a handler for a Quest 300 musher. We are going all the way to Circle. Oh yea! Actually I am going with my best friend who is really the handler. She also has a press pass so she can take pictures of Lance for Donna Quante's next project. http://www.huskyproductions.net Should be a blast.
Good luck and stay warm
Sounds like a great time, just hope the cold snap breaks. -54 up here this morning and no end in sight far as I can tell. Stay warm!
I've found that you only get those types of opportunities by proving yourself. It is obvious you have done this! Congratulations! I can't wait.
PS...Brent tried the new snowhook yesterday and it worked well. I was really happy about that. I have made 3 or 4 more of different sizes, weights and angles...I'm trying to get the weight down and maximize its effectiveness. They will be in the mail today so that he can try them out before the Quest!
Mark...My students are complaining because 52 degrees above zero...of course that is in my classroom!<grin>
Yep it's going to be a cold start.
Buck, thank you, very sweet to say. Do you have pics of the new snow hooks? I'd love to see it. Plus, I think Jan may be in the market for another one to add to her collection. Not sure but I do think I remember her saying so. I'm going to be following Brent's progress closely as he is one of my favorites. I think he is headed for big things, if he doesn't end up getting too distracted by any of the pretty girls following him lol.
Bushrat. The time and temp sign I drive be to work said -36 but weatherunderground said it was -44. Once I had been to work for a couple of hours I got an email from our new executive director saying they had gotten three sources saying it was -49 so they were going to close early. Lots of our employees and students live out of town up in the hills. Plus, the ice fog was pretty bad.
Here's some video I took this morning downtown.
I talked a couple of coworkers to go out and throw some water around with me. They are both a bit new here so I don't think they have ever done this before.
Dropping the kids off at school, heavy ice fog.
The drive from their school to work.
Cool vids Georganna. -55 here this morn, gee maybe I should take video of the cloud of urine ice fog that surrounds me when I go out and take a leak <grin>. Usually if it this cold here and in Eagle/Central, it is ten degrees colder along Birch Creek, which would put it in the minus 60s there. Brrrr.
Hahaha don't freeze any (camera) parts.
They are already in transit...thanks for reminding me though. I did manage to snap a few shots while I was in the process of making the prototype. I've attached a few. The general concept is the same, just found ways to knock the weight down. My best weight for a rear hook is 655.3 grams. If I would have had a little more time, I would have drilled some holes in that one to drop that down another 30-50 grams. I don't know a lot about them, but from my understanding, that is quite lightweight for working effectively as they do. Have a look at Brent's at the start of the race on Saturday, he said he'll be sporting it! I've got the templates, so let me know if you want some made.

I can't help but wonder if it feels the same as it did when I peeed on the cow fence as a kid!<grin><grin>

Then again, at fifty-five below I am dressed in so many multiple layers that doing the normal unzip thing is pretty much impossible before your fingers freeze, and you can't do it with gloves on either...just a no-win situation all the way around. BTW, nice snow hooks you made.
An electrifying experience?

Oh yea, I did her henna of course. She was also my model in a larger, full back piece but I wont go posting that picture around here. Neener neener neener.
