    Default Log Home?

This isn't a log cabin question it's a log home question. I put it on the general discussion area but was suggested I include it here, so here goes.

Mrs. Kingfisherktn and I have started our log home planning for our future move to our property in the Mat/Su area. If all goes as planned the shell will go up in about 15-18 months.

We are scouring designs and plan books from many different log home manufacturers and dealers. We want to build with round, handcrafted logs 12"-16" in diameter, not milled logs.

Does anyone have any recommendations from personal experience of Canadian or Alaskan log home builders? We are trying to keep our budget for the shell under $35-$45 a sq.ft.

    thanks

    Default a link to information

I can't imagine why you would want to leave all that nice rain in Ketchikan!

Here's a link to the International Log Builders Association. I don't have personal experience with any of the builders listed but I used to be a member of the association.

    http://www.logassociation.org/

If you look under the member directory you can find many companies specializing in all aspects of the industry. Many of the top log builders are listed.

Good luck on your project and post some pictures when you get done.

    Default Beware!!

I sold log homes for several year, seen every kind of log home out there. Beware of the canadian that use "fall" cut timber (its green and your house will shrink like crazy). Also with the canadian dollar just as strong as the US dollar you dont save the typical 30% like you use to be able to.
