Question Guide/Lodging Advice for summer salmon trip

    Hello fellow anglers,

I am in the process of checking into a fishing trip for my son and I to Alaska, we would like to fish for silver salmon in the Deshka River area during early/mid august. We live near Billings Montana. I was born and raised on the west coast north of Seattle and I have caught many kings, silver and other salmon. My son is 11 years old, we hunt deer and elk here together but the fishing here is nothing like catching the mighty salmon, which I would like to introduce to my son, he has never caught a salmon.

I am thinking of a 3-day guide/boat trip of fishing and staying in the area (Willow or Houston) for 4 nights. I would like to fish most of the day (early am till late afternoon)

I was looking at a couple of web sites ( and they seem like good, reputable guides.

I was wondering if anyone could provide some suggestions/feedback to other reputable guides in that area, and also places to stay, bed and breakfast's are OK also.

I am not that familiar with salmon fishing in Alaska so if someone has other ideas about a 3-day trip that would provide some GOOD salmon action during July/August I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance

these guys have nice cabins and do excellent trout fishing trips
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

The guides that you've mentioned and that have been recommended to you are definitely good choices for that area. If you are interested in coming a little further north to the Talkeetna area (away from the crowds / combat fishing), we offer several different packages that might also suit your needs and save you a bit of money in the process. I've sent you a PM with some more details or check out our website.

Regardless, you and your son will have a great time! Enjoy.
