    What Are The Benifits If Any On A Cub?

    Increased wing area. It also allows the extension of the ailerons all the way to the tip, which in turn allows for extending the flaps.

    Whether or not a guy believes those mods are beneficial is very subjective.

    Are they a legal installation? Log book entry? 337? Weight and balance revision?
    Did they just square off the wing, or is the aileron extended too?
    If the seller is saying the plane is worth more with the squared wing, that would be debateable.

    If the tips have been extended, and the ailerons, too, perhaps there's a small improvement in low airspeed performance. the Cub ailerons are notoriously small and sometimes not very effective. Remember, though, that there aren't a helluva lot of pilots that can fly a standard Super Cup to its design performance level anyway. The standard model will get in and out of some pretty small places, most of which don't look suitable from the air anyway.

    It's said that the square tips reduce parasite drag, but I personally don't think so. You can't hurt a Cub wing very much; but you can't improve it much, either, in my estimation. This comes from thirty years of flying the little buggers.

    Squared wings with aileron extentsions are OK, BUT if the ailerons are still standard length, then it makes the roll even more mushy,

    I have had two with the old Flying Nun droop tips. The one postive thing they did was keep the plane straight during stalls. But they also made those planes float in ground effect for a long time. Ok for take-off but not good for short landings.
    They may have made the plane slower in cruise as well.

    Supercubs only need a few things to really perform.

    1. An experienced and properly trained pilot.
    2. Extra Horsepower
    3. long flat prop
    4. no extra weight
    5. moderately sized gear tires and legs.
    6. More experience and training for the pilot.

    Right on the money...but you could add VG's if you decided not forgo the "no extra weight".... and of course a few hundred more hours of short field experience then you already mentioned. Very very few fellows fly a standard 150 hp cub to its maximum ability, and very very few cub pilots with extra Horse Power, VG's, extended wings, entended flaps, etc...can fly at the level that a standard 150 hp cub is capable of in the right hands. Most cant even come close.... not to say that there are not some really impressive cub drivers out there who really CAN do it.
