I acquired a taste for this when I lived in Germany. I make a batch every year to take the New Year's fireworks.
1 liter of red wine
15 tsp. of sugar
4 1/4"x3/4" pieces of lemon peel
4 cinnamon sticks
juice of 1/4 lemon
Pour wine into a crock pot and add the sugar, cinnamon sticks, and lemon juice. Put the cloves and lemon peel in a tea ball or a cloth tea bag, and put it into the wine.
Cook in the crock pot on LOW for at least 4 hours. I usually start mine much earlier than that.
