Thumbs up Trail Report Wiilow AK. 12-28-07

Temps are in Teens and a little cloudy. We groomed about 70 miles of trails this week and it's looking pretty good! Talk to Dan from Yentna Station and the Yentna is groomed from the mouth to Luce's. Kroto slough is freezing up well and the only spot that could be a problem is on the Su. and Deshka at the big buff. Dan said not to take any big trailers through there the ice is thin and narrow!
Well I need to go riding!
So from Winter Park Cabins and the Willow Trail Comm. Happy New Year!!

The machine went in with a woman and her daughter on a guided outing. It was a ways down Kroto Slough, always iffy as a result of overflow and swamp water warming the slack water. Thank goodness the folks at the Deshka Landing were able to help them out, get them hot showers and warm clothes. The Deshka Landing's presence is a blessing to those frequenting the area. Some of the trail groomers/trail setters are new to the area and just don't have a historical sense of what the best routes are. Then the next rider falls into the unsuspecting trap they have laid down. The locals along the Yentna like to take the shortest routes possible, not always the best. Sometimes the longer routes are the safest and fastest. Shortcuts will usually get some of the unsuspecting.

I was snowshoeing on the Little Willow yesterday and saw a lot of overflow and a few sections of wide open water. We need some consistently cold weather before the rivers will be safe to ride!

Thumbs up Going on the Big Rivers

Well being the New Years big weekend 1000's of people are running the Yentna and Deshka rivers. Care must be taken when you are running any river or lake! But most of them are useing the Big Swamp Trail to Fish Creek Trail and on to the river, cross and up the Yentna. And for the Deshka they are going out Corral Hill Trail cross the Su. and up to Lobe's X-over Trail and on to the Deshka.
    But Things Can Change Later!
