    Default aurora alerts...

hey guys I've come across a couple websites that'll actually send a text message or an email to you when there is aurora activity in your area...I was wondering if any of yall have any experience with these websites? Also, what are some good websites that'll help you predict when they'll be in your area.

    Thanks,

    Richie

You asked if we had experience with the sites? Which sites would help. Usually the college does pretty well.

Yes, the UAF GI web site is perhaps the best around.

UAF GI is the authority for the aurora. A great way to tell if there is aurora right now is to go to this website http://sec.noaa.gov/today.html and see what the KP value is, if its around 5 there is probably aurora
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

Randy, you might try these sites:
http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/ftpdir/forecasts/oldALTS.txt this one will have the kp value when they are active.

    http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/rt_plots/kp_3d.html and this one.
