Default These are not in order but...

    Here goes:

    1. 35 Whelen
    2. 7mm STW
    3. 340 Weatherby Mag
    4. 375 Ultra Mag
    5. 450 Marlin
    6. 270 Win
    7. 204 Ruger
    8. 223 Ackley Improved
    9. 375 Win
    10. 260 Rem

I always take two guns with me when I go on my hunting trips, even if it's just a day trip in the truck (obviously I only carry one, but it's nice to have a spare in the truck). Any of the cartridges above have a "soulmate" on the list that I can take with it as the perfect companion.

    Prairie Dog .223 AI & .204
    Coyote .223 AI & .260
Pronghorn, Whitetail, Mule Deer, & Caribou .270 & 7mm Stw
Black bear (over bait) .375 Win & .450 Marlin
    Elk 7mm Stw & .340
    Moose .35 Whelen & .340 Weatherby Mag
Grizzly .340 Weatherby Mag & .375 Ultra Mag

    1 .22 long rifle
    2 .223 Remington
    3 .260 Remington
    4 30/30 Winchester
    5 30-06 Springfield
    6 358 Winchester
    7 375 Winchester
    8 375 H&H
    9 45/70 Government
    10 45 Colt

I guess those would be my favorites, but truth be told, those are the calibers I own (with the exception of the 358), and I have not really shot that many others to make much of a determination. Anyway, once I complete my “battery” with the purchase of a 35 caliber something or other, I think I will pretty well have everything covered. I did notice that not one of us would be without the good old 22 long rifle, and most of us also like the .223 and 375 H&H. It would seem that great minds do indeed think alike

Over the years I pretty much stood by the old faithfuls. However in the last few years three rounds have really caught my attention and they have jumped way up on my list.

    They are:
    17 HMR-Marlin
    204 Ruger-Cz
    and most recently the 338 Federal-Kimber 84m

I think these three newbies could almost fill all my rifle needs.

My other 7 favorites would be:
    44 mag-1894 Marlin,S&W 629
    270 winchester-Rem 700ADL
    30-06 BRNO/Kimber barrel
    357 mag- 4" S&W 686
    22lr- numerous, Ruger mkII Volquartsen/favorite
    223-RockRiver AR15
    22-250 old Ruger Varmint/Tang safety

Might add that my wife bought me a brand splinter new Remington 700 Light varminter/ 22" fluted ss in 204 for Christmas, My kids got me an assortment of predator calls. They're all in singing around the piano and I'm in the lazy boy making dying rabbit sounds....I sound better than they do!
