All I know is that I own a plain jane 45/70 guide gun, and with 420 gr lead bullets flying out of the barrel at 2000 fps it kicks so bad that I actually dread shooting it at the range. I have no doubt that the Wild West calibers you speak of would be good bear medicine, or moose, or what ever you decided to point the thing at. But for me, I cant justify the expense and additional recoil when my 45/70 seems to have more than enough punch for my needs.

Best advice is for you to visit there showroom and talk to them. After that you will most likely never want to do any business with them the rest of your life.

Ain't that the truth, it's been about 8 years since I've set foot in their showroom, and I can't ever see myself doing so again.

    Default .457 WW Mag

I had WW Guns put a rifle together a month ago. Had it bored to the .457 mag, ported, ejector, large loop lever, decel pad and scout scope installed. I have ordered Buffalo bore ammunition and have yet to shoot it at the range. Should bruise shoulders and make ears bleed but I cant think of anything it wont knock down. The ability of the rifle except for long range, which in AK is really not needed is unquestionable in my mind. A buddy in the lower 48 had one done also and has used it in Africa on game including Cape Buffalo. 450 grains at 2200 fps is amazing to me---------I do agree however with the attitude inside, except for a young lady (I forget her name) she was fine.

I agree. When I go to a Gunshow, I always watch for that guy with the stewpit hat so I can avoid his table.

Man, I didnt want to say anything negative about about Wild West for fear of been scolded or banned from the forum or something............. but reading the other responses from you guys has had me laughing my head off Heck, I though maybe those guys just had something against me for some reason and then one day I went in there to buy one of thier heavy duty ejectors for the guide gun and brought my three year old with me............... they couldnt even manage to be nice to a little kid From that day on, I decided that they could not possibly sell anything "cool" enough, or cheap enough to ever get me to buy another single item from them. In fact, I would gladly pay someone else double the price rather than ever set foot back in that shop. But hey........ thats just me, and after all, I am a hellish grudge holder!

I still have a .45ACP that Jim allowed me to build in his shop back in '92. He was more than helpful to me...downright nice. Unfortunately, something happened over the years and it's painful for me to go in there. They could certainly use some customer service lessons. Is Jim even around any more? I haven't seen him there the few times I have been in the shop the last 5 years.
