    Default Pike through the ICE

I live in the valley. Is there any good Pike or Burbot fishing that is fairly easy to access from a road? I do have a snow machine, but would like somewhere in close so I could take the family. I am not looking for the monster trophy, just a good day on the ice with a few fish.

    Any Suggestions.

isn't Nancy lake closed to burbot fishing? It also doesn't have many pike. Try redshirt lake for pike, the susitna if it ever freezes up for burbot (you might be able to use set lines there too I forget) also big lake for burbot
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

    Default Nancy lake

I caught an 8lbs pike a little over a yr ago by the boat launch, and a slew of smaller ones in a couple of the shallow coves around the lake.
A guy I worked with caught a 19lbs pike by the boat launch in the same year. I saw the picture, and it was as big as my leg! To say there are not alot of pike in Nancy is incorrect. There are plenty. I grew up in the valley, and have seen many lakes be taken over by pike. Try Prator, Red shirt, South Rolly, or Long lake in willow. Also in The Nancy, and south rolly area there are plenty of smaller lakes in that same system that hold a fair amount of pike plus they do not get fished as hard.

Without driving too far, you should be able to catch a few pike in Memory Lake, located in downtown Wasilla in the center of the Taniana Townsite. A few lunkers have been pulled out there over the years.

What kind of areas do you guys catch pike in the winter? I have only fished them in the summer and was curious if I could go to the same places.

So your calling me a liar? The man that caught it is named Tim, and he works at the wasilla Home Depot. He should still be in Tool Rental but maybe paint dept now. He will gladly show you the picture. I dont stretch the truth, and you obviously havent spent alot of time pike fishing. My father, and I caught 3 pike over 15 lbs in 1 winter alone!

I see that the state record is much higher and that the wt for certificate is 15 pounds. My bad and I will look more before I leap next time.

I saw one VERY large one in Nancy just at breakup this last spring. At the surface too, no water distortion. I am talking wallhanger! Came all the way to the boat and just sat there. Would not hit no matter how many figure 8's etc that I tried.

    P.S. I have a witness.
