    Default Poached Ram found

Poachers are at it again. This is a weird deal. It was in the News-Miner today.

Discarded Dall ram dubbed an oddity

Keep your eyes and ears open. Maybe we can catch the culprit(s).

Ya, the News-Miner sight is down. But, they found a whole Dall Ram carcass on the old Nenana highway! Horns and all. Bullet hole too. Keep trying the link and you can read the whole story.

there are only a couple of places in the state where you might find rams crossing the road. It is amazing that they discarded the whole body, in one piece. I do not recall reading if they aged the sheep or not but it was almost a full curl.

An absolute waste. They aged the sheep at 10 years old. It was a legal ram but it appeared it was taken recently due to its winter coat of hair. Just another example of some idiot making it hard on all hunters.

My two cents is this, they had the sheep and someone might have come upon then via vehicle or walking. So they just left the animal there. Lets hope someone can turn this person or persons in.

10 or 11 years old and not quite full curl sounds like a Brooks Range ram.

Just curious, is there ANY hunting allowed in this area? There have been lots of discussions on this board with the 50" moose rule and people shooting, measuring, and then leaving the animal when it came in under 50". I can't imagine it has never happened with sheep if the requirement for the area is full curl. That was the first thing that came to my mind.

Where they found the dead ram. I don't know where the old Nenana hwy is, so I didn't know if that was near sheep hunting areas or not.

The Old Nenana Hwy. is just west of Fairbanks. The closest sheep are about 50 air miles away.

Could also have been shot from a boat I would venture to guess. Sure is sad my sheep rotting in a ditch thats worse than it hanging on some Kalifornians wall. I hope when they catch them we don't get stuck with a bunch of BS in the paper calling them "hunters".
