Default Fall Black Bears in Whittier

I haven't hunted the past couple of years as the water's been too rough to make trip fun. It seems to happen suddenly at midnight on August 31. Small Craft Advisories for Passage canal, always worry me in my 27 foot boat. I just don't like crawling into my bag and feeling the boat swing on anchor. In both '02 & '03 we saw several bears but failed to get to shore, get the shot. If this is a good year for pinks, they should be easy to find. Nearly every 'creek' will have fish & bears.

You can't shoot from the boat anymore, and getting to shore in big waves really sucks. Last year I sat in Whittier and watched it blow for three days. Just something to think about.

Correct, since 2002 or 3 I believe, it is now illegal in GMU 6 to shoot from a boat, even if the motor is killed and you are sitting still. Can't do it.
The fall weather out of Whittier for bears is tough. Storms come it quickly and it can get real rough real quick. Be real careful about believing the weather predictions. I went out once with a forecast of 1-2 foot waves. NOT! It took a long time and a lot of sweat and prayer to get back to Whittier.
