    Default S&w .460

    Morning all.

    I recently aquired a S&W 460 5" . I have yet to shoot it.

I was looking for any reloading data on it. Every book I have looked at does not show this cartidge.

I am not even sure what size bullets I can use in it. I know I can shoot colt 45 and 454 casul through it, so does that mean the 460 round is just a 45?

There sure is not much of a selection of factory rounds for this one either.

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks Charlie

It uses the same .451-.452 bullets. I haven't owned or loaded for one, but put a couple of hundred rounds of factory and handloads through a friend's. I was impressed. Good purchase, I think, but I'd sure stock up on cases.

Lots of data for it at the Hodgdon site. They have links there for IMR and Winchester powders, too. Didn't check, but I'm betting you'll find 460 loads there, too.

    Thumbs up

You can also use .453 and .454 DIA bullets .
I use them quite often although my 460 has a 14" barrel .

    Thanks.
I really like this rig .I have a straight power 4x28mm and it is not doing the trick .
Had a friend come over this summer and I used his Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x32 mm and 300 yard shots was fun to do . Only used it for the afternoon and the scope went away .

I wonder if Santa has this on his list ???

    Rick,
I plan on putting an Ultra Dot Match Dot on my 460 (12 in barrel).
What height and brand of rings does your 460 wear?
    Tennessee

I am pretty sure ( I don't want to open my safe to see )These are my Leupold Mark 4 Picatinny 1" High steel rings .
I have a couple sets of the high rings from different makers .
These work quite well for me .
The rings hold tight and no slippage yet !!!!
I will see how they hold up to some heavy weight bullets that are soon to be tested . I will test some 500 Grain WFNGC soon . Should be fun on both ends !!!!
