    Default PWS Blacktails

Just returned from a six day deer hunt in PWS. Had rain and high winds for the first five days which made hunting challenging. Only one deer hanging for four of us. On day six it snowed and we had three deer by mid-morning. Seems to me that it's a lot easier hunt with snow on the ground but was wondering what others experiences were. Did quite a bit of callling which seemed to bring some in. Totally different hunt from last year when we had very cold weather and lots of snow.

what does the snow load look like up high? Is there enough to drive the deer down low? Which island or area if fine?

    Default Hunt

There was a lot of snow up high but not much down towards the beach. Just watched the weather report and it looks like a warming trend with lots of rain. Much better last year when the deer were concentrated near the beach. But they probably need a good year to recover from last year. Heard that the deer were hit pretty hard last year with the snow and very cold weather. The four of us only took four this year which is one less than I brought home last year. Guess we'll be eating a lot more salmon this winter...

    Default Weather in PWS

While I do listen to the weather reports and check them daily at 4am & 4pm if I'm going out or if I'm out, I think the best comment on weather in PWS came from a buddy of mine that lived remotely in PWS for five years. He said "Eye Witness Weather" is the only source he trusts 100%. Based on what we saw on our last trip that certainly was true....

Things still can change.. I'm still planning on going. I will drive down there. And if the weather is crappy I will call it a year.
