Default maptech usaphotomaps aerial pics etc

I have a few questions, does anyone use usaphoto maps in AK? I use it a lot in the lower 48 but cannot use it in AK? I have tried several places and screen just has 'x' and I cannot get topos or photos?

Second where can I get free aerial photos of AK? I used to use terrserver but they do not have, for example, prince of whales island?

Does anyone have the AK maptech cd I can borrow to print a few maps? I can lend you CO, MT, AZ, NM.

    Default use google maps

    Check out maps.google.com

Click on the Satellite view...some areas have nice detail, some areas don't (you can see the difference in the south end of douglas island vs the north, for example).

Looks like Prince of Wales has pretty good definition though...

    Default Google Earth

A guy turned me on to this . He told me I could see the airstrip that my outfitter lands on. Not only did I see the airstrip, but after learning how to navigate it in 3d, its amazing. You could look into every drainage in fine detail.

is great for a small part of AK, most of the state is computer generated and not worth a hoot

One of the best things UAS is doing
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

Default Nothing in AK is Free since it is so big

    acme mapper USGS in AK
This is the Knik River bridge north of A-town.

A lot of AK has been flown over and shot by AeroMap (Aero Metric) but they own the images and you will have to pay for them. The stuff that is free is on Google Earth and the quality varies depending on who they are linked to. Most towns are at a decent resolution, but if you want to go away from a town you will typically not obtain high resolution images.

Topozone has all the USGS topos for Alaska on line at 1:63K scale. They are not too useful as screen shots.
