    Default 300 ultra mag

For the last 27 years i shot a ruger 300 winchester mag. I have shot moose, dear, caribou, grizzly and black bear. Still trying for sheep and goat! The question is my wife bought me a brand new stainless steel synthetic stock 300 ultra mag for my 45th birthday. It is a beautiful rifle, but i am wondering about opinions on it and what advantages it has if any over the 300. I am more of a hunter then a shooter, but i do get to the range. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks chef

From a practical standpoint nothing over the 300 Winny. I have mine because I like a flat shooting rifle for hunting caribou in the winter by sno-go.

You can get about 400fps more out of the RUM than you can with the older win mag. 180s at 3300-3400fps and 200gr at 3000-3100fps. It makes a long range hammer in a rifle. For all practicle purposes it adds a little more energy and a bit flatter shooting than the winchester. You can really improve on factory ammo in the RUM if you reload.
