8 in. loop. 8 in. off the ground. There should be a couple posts on how to make snares back a page or 2 in this trapping forum.

    Default Snares

The snare shop has some great pre-made snares that are attached to a length of #9 fencing wire. Very slick set up. The wire provides support for your loop...

    Default kingsalmon/snareshop

They are not the best snares though. I had the opportunity to purchase about 200 dozen this year from a guy who recovered a bunch from a trapper who left all his stuff in the bush and bailed out of Alaska, with no plans to return. If you get the alaska wolf manual you can learn very easily how to attach the wire to make it perfect as well. Then you can use your own locks, make the length as you want etc... I bought 10 dozen of the fox snares from him, but they are nothing special, and I got them for when i run out and don't have time to make more etc... I do order snare parts from the snare shop, but prefer still to make my own.
