Default Quotation Marks

Sorry, but I have been unable to figure out how to select a portion of somebody else's text and highlight it in quotes in my text to respond to it.
Are there instrucions somewhere that I am missing?

If you hit the Quote button in the lower right corner of the person's post, it will automatically quote their entire post. You can then go and cut out the portions that you don't want to quote. That is the way that I do it.

Another option is to cut and paste the words that you want to quote into your own post. Put
before it and [/quote after it as well. I left off the last bracket there, otherwise it would have become a quote and you wouldn't see what I was typing.

Play with it a bit here in this thread and see if that works for you.

Well, it sounds simple enough. This is a trial.

The "preview post" doesn't look like I figured it out yet. If I didn't get it right, I will try again later.

    Thanks

I think you forgot to Put
before it. (I tried to get cute and put that in as a quote and boy did that give me problems)

If you highlight the text you want to quote and then hit this button in the toolbar -

it will automatically put the right html quote commands around the text. It won't show who originally posted it unless you use the "quote" button at the bottom of their post.

How come I don't see the toolbar?

Is there something in my settings I haven't got set right?

    Lightbulb Toolbar

Go into your User CP (link in screen's upper left). Select Edit Options > Miscellaneous Options. You'll find various message interface options there. Use the full WYSIWYG interface for most control.

There are many other useful options there...I suggest going through each one and making appropriate selections.
