    Default Stainless steel

I just bought a new stainless steel rifle. Never owned one before. Any thoughts of the best oil to use while cleaning the outside of the barrel? Or anything to stay away from?

    Default My Opinion

Get a can of old fashioned Johnson's paste wax. Apply it fairly thickly under the stock. It will not soften wood. Apply it normally to all other exterior surfaces, both metal and wood. Great for hunting in the rain. However, I use Breakfree CLP on any blued parts where water can set and rust, like the junction between the barrel and the rifle sights. I do not wax my bolt, I use Breakfree there.
