    Default Nice Elk

Good Job again John! That baby was really nice. You definitely worked hard for him. You earned it. I just wish we would've seen something..... It was great meeting up with you at the cabin right before you left. Beer next week? You too Brian.?

Nice bull! Looks a bit damp, and he's nessled nicely in some devils club. Looks like you were in for a long night! Bet you didn't even notice.

Nice looking elk! That looks like some miserable hunting conditions.

That's a dandy alright, and the typical Afognak conditions are nicely captured.

Size of Afognak elk is always deceptive, as their racks tend to be smaller and heavier than usual for Roosevelts on the west coast, even as the bodies are bigger. Anyone who has taken Rocky Mountain elk is totally blown away by Afognak elk when it's time to pack out the meat. It's more like moose packing than elk packing, they are so much bigger. The good news is that after all the hard work, you have lots more meat in the freezer to enjoy!

Very nice bull, 5x5's are about as good as it gets. A 6x6 is taken every once in a great while but the one you took is about as good as it gets. Hopefully I'll make it over for the registrations hunt yet this fall.
