Thread: Your shot and scope power?

  1. #1

Question Your shot and scope power?

I shot my Koyukuk moose through the neck at about 50 yards. The 2.5x8 power rifle scope was left on 2.5 power for the shot. Would you please share how far away your critter was and what power your scope was set at for the shot?

One of my favorite shots was a 6 yard shot on a charging black bear using a .300 Win Mag. I'm not sure what the scope's power was set on, but it didn't matter. The scope caps were down. Luckily, I popped it at the base of the neck and through the heart. It rolled & spun the bear before piling it up 35 yds away. It felt a lot like shooting skeet, but I was using a rifle, and the skeet was trying to kill me ;-).

I shot my bou at a 100 yrds with the my leopold on the 338 cranked all the way up. It just seems like thats where it always is. I know that it should be down and then turned up when needed or wanted.

Dall sheep- 242 yards- leopold 2-7 at 7 power.
Moose- 30 yards- also at 7 power, all I saw was hair behind his ear, no time to turn it down!

Both shot with a 30.06- 180 grain nosler partition- 1 shot each (I'm usually not that good)

I leave my leupold 3x9 at 6 when out and about, that's where it was when I filled my freezer this year.

Moose 35 yards with my .300 WM. Leupold VX2 3x9 set on 3 power. I always keep my scopes set on the lowest power as I'm more likely going to have time to turn it up than I am to turn it down.

    Default Sow Brown Bear 7'

shot at 44.5 yards on 6 power from a 300wm with a leupold 3.5x10x40. Love the set up on the ruger. Always seems to stay on 6, and never fails.
