I figured this would be a better thread for my question, rather than the power boat thread.
I recently got myself a new project boat - an old Zodiac RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat). The tubes on it were vandalized/slashed, but otherwise its a nice little boat.
So what is a good shop for inflatable tube repair around Anchorage? I called Marita Sea & Ski - they said they don't take this kind of work in the winter - have to wait till spring.
Talk to Tracy at AK Raft & Kayak on Tudor.
I have a friend that has a tub floor raft that had the floor slashed all over. It was nearly shredded. I think I would have just tried replacing the whole floor, but he took his time and patched it all. That was at least 5 years ago, probably more, and the floor has held wonderfully.
My son-in-law stuck my Aire cat on a piece of submerged bridge iron while running Lion's Head rapids and had to abandon it until the water dropped a few days later. It was pounded & torn at for days. I got it back with two gashes over a foot long, and several smaller ragged rips. An hours worth of glue & patching put it all back together.
One of my inflatable kayaks has a two foot long rip from being forced into a truck with no room to spare. I did a lousy job of fixing it, but even though it looks ugly, it still works great.
It's surprising what can be patched with a little determination and patience.
