I flew that area on Saturday and didn't see a single moose, doesn't mean they aren't there, we just didn't see any. I have not heard of any bulls being taken from there either.

I know the success rate is low for that area. Does anyone have data on how many moose get taken there each year?

    Default None yet

I just got off the phone with F&G, no one has taken any this year. Only two came out last year.

Are the moose just hard to find in that area or is there just not that many to be had? If so, why? Predators?

I do know the area is thick... I need to call Fish and Game to see how many people register for that permit each year.

That area has a LOT of private land, if a person was able to get access I
d bet he could find a bull or 2. I have riddne out at Eklutna on the wheelers many, many times and have never seen a moose out there, only tracks so I know they are there.

    Default I believe

178 people who got permits last year reported that they actually hunted.

I have hunted it twice - haven't seen a moose

I hunted it for the first time last year and only had another hunter reply to my calls.

I do, however, have a student this year that lives up there. I'm thinking of asking her parents if they would allow me to hunt on their land. Connections never hurt!

I don't think there are many moose by the lake, I don't think its the best habitat, if I were hunting the area I'd be hunting the valley floor.
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

From what i have seen the habitat around the lake is perfect for moose but the problem is that there isn't enough of it. The land below the lake extending all the way down to the Glenn is perfect and should hold a fair number of moose though getting access to it can be difficult if you don't know any land owners.
