Thread: Bird Update

    Default Bird Update

Well, it's almost October and there is still leafs on the trees.

Just got back from hunting today. Saw large groups of teal, blue bill and pins. Must have been several hundred. Mallards are plentiful just not in the big groups.
We hunted a 1 1/2 mile section of river inland from the coast. Man we put some hurtin on some ducks. Awesome pass shooting. They were flying up and down the river. All this rain lately has the marsh waters high and had some pretty good current going in the river for our retrievers to negotiate.
Hard to believe the small ducks are still here.
Geese numbers are a lot more.
I'll be throwing wads again this coming weekend.

I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

Just got back from a week on the Kustatan. Unlike the opening week there, most of the mallards had moved out of the puddles onto the river. Did not see large numbers of ducks for the area, but the geese were staggering. More ducks and geese moving in every day though, and it'll get better as the northern birds move in.
Out weather was not very cooperative tho, blue bird days, no wind and temps in the 50's left the birds WAY up high . .

    Cheers,

    Default Bears

Are bears a problem over there this time of year?

    Default Did'ley

Wow. I got slapped back into reality today. My duck fortune ran out today. I think somebody brought a banana onboard. Or does that work just for fishin. I went back to the same location I went to Wedsnesday.
Saw some first light, about a couple hundred. They were way far away though.
    I shot did'ley. Got did'ley and did I mention I limited out on did'ley.

On the way out I found where the birds were. I just wasn't in the right location.

We've not had "problems", but we did see 4 runnin' together on the other side of the river from us . .
