Alaska Trip - Hunting Advice
We are planning to come to Alaska in October for a short fishing trip and would really like to do some small game hunting.
None of us own any guns and living in the UK we aren't going to get any.
Ideally we were hoping to rent some when we arrived so we could stand the chance at hunting some small game on our travels. Although this is seemingly harder to arrange than we thought.
Does anyone know where we could hire 1 or 2 guns? (rifle or handgun, any caliber)
Or as a last resort a very cheap guide around the Kanai or Wasilla areas?
Refer to the bottom of this thread for some links and advise about foreign tourists and firearms:
For $100-150 USD you can but a Savage 10/22 and around $15 for a box of 550 shells. That means for under a hundred english pounds you can buy a new gun and enough ammo to last for a long trip. Also Pawn shops sell used guns which can be 1/2 the price of new if you are looking for shotguns. Be sure to check the regulations on forigners buying guns in the US.
You might consider asking for a hunting partner with an extra gun or two.
No one I know would rent a gun to a stranger, much less a foreigner, but, I often lend out a gun or two to people I go into the woods with.
Or, you could buy a slingshot... they work great if you use roundballs.
