    Default fresh water shrimp?

When I was a kid in Alaska I would often visit a large pond and capture some tiny fresh water shrimp like creatures in a gar, they were less then an inch long, blue and some had a red dot on their head. They hid in the roots and mud on the sides of the pond/lake and I was wandering if anyone knew what kind of shrimp they were or if anyone else had seen them. This happened in Anchorage.

They are called Scuds. The fish in Quartz lake thrive on eating them by the thousands. I'd include a picture of them but I don't want to post a picture that I didn't take in case it is copyright protected. You can do a search for scuds on Google and choose images when you do the search and you will find many pictures of them.
