    Default First Arctic Char

I caught my first Arctic Char while caribou hunting in the Brooks. Here is a pic of my Dad's and my char. We had a couple spare hours before our air taxi picked us up and we took advantage of the time. My dad caught his on a 7 wt fly rod with a #0 mepps rooster tail and I caught my char on a #3 vibrex in orange with a spinning rod.

    Default Ivyshak fish

    Tradbow,

    The char are Ivyshak fish.

    Skipjack,

My dad has a spinning reel and a fly reel for his fly rod. Some combo special he bought at Gander Mountain. I tried to throw a spinner with my dad's setup and I did not have much success. My dad figured out how to do it and could cast pretty well with a spinner.

I know that now after we talked LOL!

The river's full of them (Ivishak and sag), if you take the time to find them. And man alive are they fun!!!

    Skip,

I've casted 7/8oz pixies on a fly rod out of valdez one year. Worked pretty dang good on an 8 weight Oh, and we proceeded to HAMMER fish!!! Dunno what was different other then the retreive. Works pretty darn good on coho's.
