    Default lake kayaking?

    Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, and new to permanent living in Alaska ( I've spent the last few winters here mushing). My wife and I are about to move to Willow, and were wondering about places to kayak on lakes. Any reccomendations?
How late in the year can one generally use the lakes before they freeze?
    thanks in advance.

    Default early october

Some times we have some ice on local lakes down here in October.
a few years ago the first week of October.
larger lakes like Skilak etc. don't freeze over until December.. or later...
your area up in the willow area... .. not sure.
I was on a fly out trip the first week of October over in Dillingham one year and the lake we were on,, would freeze in the night and lucky for us ,,thaw in the day...
We were happy we had a satelite phone that trip,, so we could call for our pilot to hurry,,, " the lake is about half open right now,,,,"!!!
