Question Tidal Effect on the Bite

Is there a consensus on whether the tide has an effect on saltwater salmon trolling/mooching. I've always heard the bite is better just before & during high tide. If that is the case, what explains it?

Details vary depending on the location, but in general terms salmon always seem to hit better on the incoming tide. More than 30 years ago I was a commercial troller on the West Coast, and you could just about guess the tide changes by watching your catch rate, with it picking up on the flood and falling off on the ebb- even twenty miles offshore! I see much the same near shore, but in some locations may be best right at low and others may be better at mid-tide or high.
