Getting Elk home from Afognak?
Any advice on how to get Elk/deer meat home to Anchorage from Afognak this October (if i get lucky)? Looking for ways to decrease spoilage, etc. Who will ship 700-1000 pounds of meat? Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
Pack it in Wetlok boxes and ship it via Northern Air Cargo. Heat shouldn't be a problem in October, but you still don't want it sitting around. NAC does a good job with perishables.
Got an elk on Raspberry a couple years ago. Flew the meat home on Alaska airlines cargo. Wasn't that expensive. Got wet lock boxes from Seahawk Air (they flew us over there from Kodiak) great outfit to deal with.
