I was thinking about that deer hunt today. I keep hoping to be able to get out into the Sound one of these years on August 1st, but there's always something that gets in the way. Next year. Seriously. (I hope.)

Alas, the boat hasn't been in the water for over a year. It's going in within the next week, though, so we'll see. With a new engine it it, however, I don't know that testing it out and working through the bugs during such short light and rough weather is the best idea. I'd love to try, though.

We went out, or rather up, and up, and up, and then down... Didn't see anything to shoot but saw five deer and two of them in rapid flight from something that made a whole lot of commotion. Me and the four year old didn't stick around to see what got them deer tearin outta there like that but had fun sliding down a few hills!

Brian, you can always join us in Juneau... My (nameless) friend on the forum always seems to find something else to do between buck season and rain. lol

The couch folds out, and, I also have a cot. You'd love it!

As for me, I'll hunt AFTER the salmon derby.

We're in Wrangell and hunted on the back channel side of the island up the trailhead.

Perhaps someday. I'm kicking around the idea of investing in some property in Petersburg with my brother, though that may have to wait for a while. I've always wanted to hunt SouthEast, but haven't done so yet. I know I'd like it, though, as I find myself right at home in Prince William Sound and Afognak Island. Keep us posted on how your season goes.

    Default Deer hunting

Took a friend's teenage daughter out for opening day to try to get her first deer. (she's already taken a bison and a moose) We had our chances but didn't pull the trigger. We saw 33 deer and five of them were confirmed bucks of forkhorn size or bigger. One of them was a dandy for the sound. Taking her brother out Sunday to a new favorite spot. Hopefully we'll have better results.

It looked like our hard winter wasn't too hard on our local deer herd.

Well I'm actually working here in Juneau, I'm hoping that with everyone distracted by the derby I can sneak out tomorrow and pick one up.
