Default Boat Inspection and Appraisal Reccomendations

Folks, looking for a shop in Wasilla or Anchorage to have a boat inspected and appraised. Might be buying it and just want it looked at before i drive down there myself. I'm not that mechanically inclined in the first place. Any recommendations?

For starters, there are two services, marine appraisal and marine survey that are sometimes talked about as if they are the same. My understanding is an appraisal is much less in depth and simply provides a value for the boat in question. On the other hand, a survey is much more in depth assessing the mechanical functionality of all the systems on the boat with suggestions for improvements, documents the models and serial numbers of all important components, as well as giving a market value. My lending institution required a survey rather than an appraisal. When I bought my boat this last year, Michael Terminel at Alaska Survey Associates out of Anchorage, was the only boat “Surveyor” I could find with the requisite credentials required by my lending institution. I too am not terribly mechanical and I was greatly reassured after his inspection. I found his company to be very professional and easy to work with. Highly recommended. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more.

Do I give my friends advice? Jesus, no. They wouldn't take advice from me. Nobody should take advice from me. I haven't got a clue about anything..
