The Alaska Outdoors University is now open!

The Alaska Outdoors University is now open! Years in the making, this is our next step toward a goal of offering mentorship for outdoors enthusiasts. Through engaging video and lessons, we are combining wisdom and experience with the latest techniques, tools, and tips in a friendly, informative format. Our first series walks you through every detail of hunt planning; from strategies to avoid mistakes, personal preparation for the hunt, costs and money-saving tips, to researching and mapping your route. We coach you through the process from start to finish.

The first course, available now, is 30 hours, broken down into 36 lessons of interesting, easy-to-follow guidance normally only available to my Hunt Planning clients. Through video presentation, I walk you through the process and provide everything you need to plan a safe, successful hunt. We also encourage you to discuss your progress! You’ll find an Alaska Outdoors University forum in our Members-Only forums at the top of our forums home page. Feel free to post your questions and comments about the University system or topical questions related to the courses. Click the University menu tab to view an introductory video and class outlines.

Courses will be released in installments. Although you may join at any time; by joining now, you will have time to complete each course before the next; and put your new knowledge to use right away. The next installments will include Logistics, Gear, and Field Techniques; with future courses being offered by mentors in a wide variety of areas. Subscriptions are monthly, with an option for an annual subscription at a discount. AOU subscriptions auto-renew, but you may always opt-out through your membership profile—accessed by clicking MEMBERSHIP in the menu bar. (Membership status is required to retain your access and progress information, and to review your lessons.) The AOU uses your same username and password as the forums.

To sign up, click on the Members link at the top of the forums and choose the University (AOU) plan that you prefer.

Marsh rat boat

Does anybody have a marsh rat, I’m looking for the pros and cons of it, starting to research layout boats. I know it’s not a classic layout but it seems to be a good hybrid. Hard to find duck boats in Alaska.
