Default best range finder for the buck?

I'm looking at getting a ranger finder and there are many to choose, so I thought I'd ask here, what is a good range finder, out to 800 or 1000 yards that won't break the bank. I'll be using it in the open tundra and in wooded areas.

SIG Kilo 1000. I had a Leica 1600 and used it for probably 10 years and sold it a year ago and bought a used Kilo2200MR and love it. You will probably get quite a few suggestions and one thing you will hear about the SIG's is that people routinely range objects past the advertised range. Mine is clear and acquires ranges almost instantly.

I also second SIG i have owned several as well as buddies who have others and the SIG outperformed a high end Leica this year in dense moisture.

We had a sig on a hunt in April and it seemed to malfunction. Maybe it was the snow, but it we were ranging caribou and it was way off. It could have been a lemon, they're numbers are impressive.

I've got a Leupold, but wish I had the vortex warranty.

Do you have one mounted on a rifle? Tell us (me) about your experience with it please. Interested.
