    When you fly multiple configurations, it can happen. The most obvious risk case is with configurable landing gear like an amphib, where the plane could be either. But regardless of whether you have gear like that, it is good as part of the pre-landing checklist to verbally check your gear and affirm your landing surface and that the two are compatible.

    My wheels-only friends get a kick out of me announcing during the pre-landing checklist, "Gear is wheels, I have a wheel out my window, brakes are not applied, so we will be landing on land, in this case that runway..."

    But I know what it feels like to be fatigued, distracted, etc. I like to make sure I give myself and my passengers every opportunity to make sure I get it right. So I do.
