    Holy zucchinis!!! Question, have you ever noticed that they may have more of a tendency to be a little bitter when they get that large? Just curious. Do you know what causes one to be bitter?

    No I haven't noticed any of mine to be bitter yet this year.
    Then again I've only eaten a few of them a lot of them got shredded, spiralized, Etc and thrown in the freezer.
    I wouldn't know what causes them to be bitter.
    Could it be a tendency of the cultivar of zucchini that you are growing?
    My zucchinis are Black Beauties and BC2.

    Cabbage anyone?
    Some of my cabbages are done so today I have to make sauerkraut!
    17.3 lb each for the two that I harvested today and that's just the head not including the outer leaves.
    I'm thinking this 5 lb crock ought to work well!

    Yep , good size crock, tasting as
    it cures is a nice benefits of kraut making

    Few gallons of green beans to the freezer.

    we didn't get near the volume of beans that you did... That hi-tunnel you put over your beans evidently worked well.
    I planted yellow wax and Contender... the yellow wax is producing much better than the green contender.. I have the plants too close.. "Next year" I'm going to plant them further apart... I may have gone a little heavy on the 8-32-16 before actually planting too..

    Got my sauerkraut fermenting in the crock and all looks good there.
    Harvested a whole bunch of broccoli today and some kohlrabi.
    Most of it is blanched and bagged for the freezer.

    Right on! That’s exactly what we got going on. Large cabbages going to sauerkraut, plenty of peas and green beans and cucumbers. A green house full of red tomatoes coming in nicely and I see another arm sized zucchini ready to be picked at any time. The wife also brought in a large bull of potatoes for French fries the other night and the corn is full sized this year. Probably gonna make up another batch of compost tea tomorrow if this traffic ever gets moving in Cooper landing and I can finish my routes at work. Gotta love it! Thanks for all the good vibes in this gardening thread.

    More broccoli today.
    A gallon and a half of peas.
    21 more zucchini.
    2 Early Acorn winter squash.
    And 9 or so of the Gold Nugget winter squash.
    Some of this would have been harvested earlier but I had to be down at the Kenai Peninsula Fair for the weekend.
    But a nice haul none the less.
    I'm pretty much done with zucchini and my freezer is running out of room for it.
    I have one shelf in my upright freezer that is entirely stuffed with freezer bags of zucchini. Some of it is shredded, some spiralized, some cut into long slices on my mandolin slicer for lasagna.
    I have some friends who would like some and we'll see about the rest.

    Harvested all my corn today.
    Ended up with about a hundred and fifty useable ears.
    I planted 4- 16 foot long rows a foot apart with the corn planted 6in apart in the rows.
    This is the Yukon Chief dwarf corn that was developed in 1958 by the University of Alaska.
    We're eating some fresh but I'm in the process now of canning a bunch up.
    It's not quite as sweet as some of the other varieties of sweet corn and of course the ears are smaller being a dwarf corn.
    But it grew really well on my garden this year so I'll take it.
    I did have some stocks that formed two or three ears but generally only one year was a decent size and the other ones were small or not fully developed.
    But that's okay cuz my chickens will love those little tiny ears.
    All in all I'm happy with this cultivar of corn and do plan to grow it again next year.

    Looks delicious .
    This has been a great gardening
    year for sure.
    Mine garden tapered off, compost
    pile growing
    but
    if this is to be the “new norm,”
    I may need another freezer

    That Sweet corn really looks good...
    This was an excellent year for green beans.. (finally)
    All my Outside tomatoes did better than my Green House toms... Just couldn't keep the temp below 90 on those hot sunny days.

    Emptied my potato half drums and got the spuds hardened off.
    Grew different amounts of 5 varieties this year. Iditareds, Purple Vikings, Yukon Golds, Gold Rush russets, and last year's taste test winner the German Butterball's.
    Got my new Garlic bed in and planted.
    4 rows Russian red, 2 rows Music both ordered from Filaree garlic farm. And 3 rows from the farmers market she thought might be Music. So 54 total garlic planted.
    The plan is to plant onions on the front half next spring.
    Pulled my 4 small pumpkin as they had started to color up and I have to head to work.
    Got the last of my Zucchini and Broccoli in.
    ~a gallon of broccoli and several more winter squash.
    Also took the last two Golden Acre green cabbage and last two Red Express cabbage.
    Carrots looked good so got pulled. I believe these were a Nantes variety.
    The only thing I have left is a couple of large Acorn squash that I hope ripen up.
    Hopefully get my dad to harvest those for me if I'm not home in time.
