Default Night Flight C-206 crash...in Mat Su

A student pilot and a passenger survived a plane crash near Willow Airport on Saturday night, the Alaska State Troopers said.

Robin C. Spaulding, 20, and John P. Cabaud, 29, both of Talkeetna, were flying in a Cessna 206 just before midnight when the small plane crashed "while performing a training maneuver," troopers and the National Transportation Safety Board said.

The two suffered serious injuries, said Clint Johnson of the National Transportation Safety Board.

I am very glad they are o.k. I am friends with Robin's parents and have know her since she was born. She was one of the kids in the Build-A-Plane program. Her stepdad is a retired guide and high time bush pilot. I don't know the instructor personally, but I do know his boss and he was instructing another family friend of ours as well. I'll withhold any judgement until I hear the final story, but I'd like to think they made the best of a bad situation due to the fact that they both lived.

By the way, I think that was the C-206 that took 4th place in the 2009 Valdez heavy touring class. Larry Rivers was flying her.

That's Larry's 206.. bummer. Robin is his step daughter. I haven't heard how Robin and John are doing yet.

It could have been mechanical. I remember back in the 90s when I was law dawgin Larry had a cylinder blow out in a bad way.

Larry says that Robbie is doing okay, had one surgery already and a couple more to go. He said she is in good spirits.
